In a big push to modernize infrastructure, the Government of Punjab has officially approved seven new road packages under the first phase of its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The decision follows directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to speed up development by actively involving private sector investments.
The announcement came during the fifth official session of the Punjab Public-Private Partnership Authority, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb in Lahore.
Key Decisions Approved in the Meeting
The administrative session cleared several major initiatives aimed at upgrading public infrastructure, healthcare, and governance across the province:
Long-Term Road Contracts: Private companies selected through successful bidding will manage, build, and repair provincial roads. These contracts will run for seven years, with private firms sharing generated profits directly with the provincial government.
Local Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccine Production: On the Chief Minister’s orders, the board approved plans to start manufacturing FMD livestock vaccines locally under the PPP framework to support agricultural growth and livestock farmers.
Livestock Farm Upgrades: The authority reviewed plans to modernize government-owned livestock farms and vaccine production facilities.
Transparent Bidding System: Amendments were passed to improve evaluation criteria for public tenders, ensuring maximum transparency during the bidding process.
Administrative and Digital Reforms: Officials ratified previous authority decisions while reviewing new communication policies, district development schedules, and social media outreach plans.
Boosting Quality and Timely Delivery
Speaking at the session, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that combining public resources with private sector efficiency would act as a major game changer for Punjab's economic growth. She emphasized that all projects must meet strict quality standards and finish within set deadlines.
Following the meeting, Marriyum Aurangzeb visited the Punjab Financial Assistance Services (PFAS) unit within the Finance Department, praising the administrative team for pushing forward financial reforms across the province.
