Daily commuters using the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system must complete a new security requirement. TransPeshawar, the agency operating the Zu Peshawar network, has officially made National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) biometric verification mandatory for every registered Zu Card.
This step connects every transit card to a verified passenger identity, improving overall security across public transit routes in the city.
The registration process is already underway across all BRT stations, and cardholders have until December 31, 2026, to complete their biometric verification. Starting January 1, 2027, any unregistered Zu Card will be blocked automatically and cannot be used for transit payments.
What Is the Zu Peshawar Biometric Verification Requirement?
The Zu Card allows commuters to travel conveniently across the Peshawar BRT network through automated fare gates. Under the new rule, cardholders must link their physical card to their official NADRA identity record using thumbprint verification.
TransPeshawar Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Syed Murtaza Asghar Bukhari, stated that this decision was taken to strengthen passenger identification, deter card misuse, and ensure a safer, more organized commuting experience for everyone.
Important Deadlines and Fees
Verification Fee: A nominal fee of Rs. 10 is charged per card registration.
Registration Deadline: December 31, 2026.
Card Blocking Date: January 1, 2027 (unverified cards will stop working at fare gates).
Passengers are strongly encouraged to register early rather than waiting until late December to avoid crowds and long waiting times at station ticket counters.

Passengers under 18 years old can choose one of two options to register their Zu Card:
