The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has provided official clarification regarding the 7.05% annual tariff adjustment for water and sewerage services for the current fiscal year (FY 2026–27). Officials reassured citizens that the new pricing structure is modest and designed to cause minimal financial disruption to domestic and commercial households.

According to data released by the utility provider, the typical monthly bill for domestic and commercial users averaged around Rs. 900 during FY 2025–26. Under the revised schedule, this average will rise to approximately Rs. 1,000 per month, reflecting a net monthly increase of roughly Rs. 100.

Key Highlights of the Tariff Revision

  • Consumer Base Affected: The revision applies to approximately 1.289 million domestic and commercial consumers, alongside roughly 8,000 bulk and industrial accounts across Karachi.

  • Bulk & Industrial Rates: For industrial clients billed on a volumetric basis, rates have moved from 0.526 paisa per gallon to 0.563 paisa per gallon, reflecting the same 7.05% adjustment.

  • CPI Linkage: Chief Commercial Officer Haris Sarfraz confirmed that the 7.05% rate revision is directly linked to the average Consumer Price Index (CPI) for FY 2025–26, enacted under the provisions of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Act.

Reasons Behind the Tariff Adjustment

Like other public utility providers, KW&SC faces compounding operational costs driven by escalating prices in key areas:
