KP Government Launches Ehsaas Umeed Card: Rs 5,000 Monthly Support for Persons with Disabilities, Widows, and Orphans

In a major social welfare push, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial government has unveiled a comprehensive relief initiative to uplift vulnerable populations, including differently-abled individuals, widows, and orphans.

The announcement was made during an open court (Khuli Kachehri) organized specifically for special citizens in Swabi. Malik Liaquat Ali Khan, Advisor to the KP Chief Minister on Social Welfare, Zakat, and Ushr, detailed several new welfare programs integrated into the current Annual Development Programme (ADP).

Ehsaas Umeed Card: Direct Doorstep Financial Assistance

Rolling out this week, the Ehsaas Umeed Card Programme provides a direct cash safety net for eligible residents:

• Support for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): 10,000 qualified special citizens will receive a Rs 5,000 monthly stipend.

• Assistance for Orphans and Widows: A parallel card program will disburse Rs 5,000 per month to deserving families.

To prevent administrative delays and eliminate physical movement for vulnerable applicants, stipends will be transferred directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts, with registration conducted right at their doorsteps.

Economic Empowerment and Educational Grants

Beyond monthly cash grants, the KP government is investing heavily in long-term financial independence and educational access:

1. Rs 500 Million Interest-Free Loan Scheme

A dedicated Rs 500 million Ehsaas Loan Fund has been created to provide interest-free micro-loans to differently-abled entrepreneurs, empowering them to start small businesses and achieve economic self-reliance.

2. Rs 700 Million Student Scholarship Fund

To ensure financial constraints do not hinder academic pursuits, an Rs 700 million Ehsaas Scholarship Programme has been allocated to fund higher education and vocational training for students with special needs across the province.

Targeted Marriage Grants & On-the-Spot Relief

The provincial government is also providing immediate social support through additional channels:

• Dowry Fund Quota: A specific quota has been reserved for PWDs under the provincial Dowry Fund to alleviate financial pressure on families during marriage arrangements.

• Immediate Cash Relief: On-the-spot financial grants are being issued for urgent medical or household needs, including an immediate Rs 50,000 grant handed over to an elderly disabled citizen during the Swabi public assembly.
